Pause & Reflect - You are much more than what you do in your Job
Have you ever wondered if what you do in your job is all that you are? Or all that you can do? If yes, you've come to the right post.
Lately, I've been asking myself the same questions and it took a while for me to pause, reflect, and realize that we are much more than what we do daily. Realizing it not only adds clarity but also sets us free from being yet another rat.
I know how easy it is to get carried away by our daily tasks, meeting deadlines, and all. But it is crucial to pause and reflect because we all have a unique talent. In nature, an artist can’t play sports like a sportsperson, and a sportsperson can’t paint like an artist. I always admire that speciality of nature. It is why I want you to bring your real potential to effect and become more of who you really are and do what more you can do instead of just doing what you do daily.
Some of you might be really into your job as it might be the one that you always wanted to do. And, some others have their interests overlapping with their job. If so, consider yourself lucky. To all the rest - who just work for a living - it is as I said.
I'm not going to the extremes asking you to quit your job. A job is a job and it is done for what it offers. I would never ask you to quit your job and do this or that. Neither I am intending to give "motivation" or get you hyped up to grind, work hard, succeed, achieve big or so and so. In fact, that whole thing of what success is and what it means is a whole another topic.
What I actually want here is to remind you not to forget or ignore what you are naturally good at, and give it a life too. I hope, this weekend would set it off for you. Happy Friday!
Hello Akash!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your thoughts but I strongly disagree on your use of the phrase "naturally good at" because what you claim as natural talent is, more often than not, the result of years of hard work, practice and perseverance.
I don't believe any of us are born with skills. Skills are learned and being good at something is a reflection of a person's efforts. It is not a free gift from nature. Of course, one person might have it easier than another but usually, it has more to do with life not being fair for everyone than natural ability.
I appreciate the honesty and openness in your posts but I find the phrase "yet another rat" quite condescending. I've sensed the same tone in your previous posts as well. While I really admire what you're doing here, I'd gently encourage you to reconsider how your words come across. Phrases like this belittle people who haven't had the time or clarity to reflect on their potential because they're too busy surviving.
I do not mean to be offensive. Just thought it's necessary to be honest about how your words made me feel.
Hi,
DeleteFirst of all, thank you for taking time and reading my blog. Secondly, thank you for your honest yet polite thoughts. Would love to get more such opinions from you here.
I indeed appreciate your considerate thoughts and I respect it because I get what you mean here that no one is gifted with something rather it is more of their sincere work. I get it because I also believe the same that every outcome has efforts. And, I can see that the phrase "naturally good at" is what that reflects it the other way. My real intention was to mean what people are naturally inclined towards or that they really love doing. That was the whole vision with what I wrote this blog. I wanted people to start noticing it and at some point putting some time into it and bringing it to fruition.
The reason I mentioned the "yet another rat" so obvious is that the people who I mostly come across are not like the ones you mentioned you are too busy surviving - maybe I'd come across such ones in future - The ones who I mostly come across are those who say that their job is all that they are capable of without even trying to explore any. And, I was intentionally rude with my tone there. So, those are who I was speaking to there. But of course, the next time, I'll keep in mind that this could mean in such condescending way for the rest when they come across this.
Moreover, thank you for mentioning considering how our words could come across. That is really a timeless reminder for every writer.
