Is Necessity a Luxury?

I smiled with joy like a baby receiving chocolate, when I turned the shower on and experienced a good flow of water in my new hostel.

I've been a bachelor for almost 4 years now, and I came across a lot of residential spaces during this period. But this is the first time I'm experiencing such a thing. Initially, I was fascinated, but later, I came to the realization that it might not be something beyond what we paid for, but only what we are supposed to get.

Forget the shower. We had access to hygienic drinking water and food, a clean surrounding, sufficient provision of every amenity with thoughtful planning to make it comfortable and convenient for us without much hassle, and most importantly, immediate and responsive service to every concern we raised.

If anyone had ever told me that there's such a living space at an affordable price, I would never have believed it. Because we got accustomed to experiencing even the normal standard of living as a luxury. No, I'm not just speaking about hostels but a societal problem.

Yes, this is the situation of people in some regions of the world where a normal standard of living is considered luxurious and sometimes it is not even realized that those comforts are only essentials.

I wonder where this comes from and if the administrative bodies here believe providing "just enough" is more than enough, neglecting basic standards. I also wonder if it is rather their laziness.

I see that population is obviously a challenge, but does it justify this?!

The sadder thing is how we ignore appreciating the efforts of the administrations that take effort to revolutionize this. I could tell from how my administration reacted and responded when I genuinely shared my opinion with them.

I believe that we all experience this in some way some time, and I'd love to know how your experience was. Feel free to drop your thoughts and we can have an interactive discussion here.
